REMEDIAL ACTION-CONSTRUCTION AT CAPE NEWENHAM LONG RANGE RADAR SITE IN ALASKA
Take the next step
The ECC Team successfully tackled the challenging task of removing PCB-contaminated soil from a steep mountain slope, where site conditions presented significant obstacles. Employing innovative solutions, we devised a trolley system using ropes and pulleys to transport soil buckets over 100-feet from the slope to the waste staging area. Our team adhered to stringent safety measures, including specialized fall protection and proper PPE for handling PCBs. Meticulously, the team cleared settled soil using hand trowels and shovels, while installing exclusion zone signs to warn of contamination. Long-term air/dust sampling equipment was installed, and confirmation sampling was completed.
Post remediation, the team managed the transportation and disposal logistics of PCB-contaminated soil in super sacks, ensuring compliance with waste disposal regulations. Successful remediation of PCB-contaminated soil was achieved while maintaining an exemplary safety record.
